Bramham cum Oglethorpe, better known as Bramham is a village set in the English county of West Yorkshire. Bramham is located approximately three miles south of Wetherby, twelve miles south of Harrogate and in between the two popular cities Leeds and York. Leeds is a thriving, diverse city, and is stated as one of the largest financial centres in England. New developments in the city have led to expansion of the city and an increase in employment since the 1990’s. York is a historic city, and attracts a lot of tourists throughout the year, who come to visit sights such as the York Minster, (the second largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe) The Shambles, (medieval, narrow streets) and the Castle walls, which are available to walk around.

Accessibility

Bramham is a historic, pleasant village, ideally situated between both Leeds and York, which can be easily accessed via the A1. There are also bus stops within the village which have regular routes to Leeds, Wetherby and Harrogate. The £61 million A1 (M) Bramham to Wetheby development started in May 2007 and will ultimately provide new routes to benefit all road users to provide a motorway standard carriageway for long-distance commuters, as well as providing an alternative route for local traffic.

Activities

Bramham village hall is a focal point for many activities; it is located in the centre of the village (adjacent to the church) and has parking availability making it advantageous for those attending activities/functions held there. The hall is also available to hire for both long term, short term and one off occasions. The rates are extremely attractive and the proceedings help to maintain the village hall.

The majority of community based activities take place in the village hall providing a base for many clubs and societies including Dance and Fitness classes, Brownies, Church functions, senior citizens party and the Yorkshire country woman’s association. Additionally, there have been events which include the comedian Dominic Holland and music from the local band The Spacecats. Schools

Bramham Primary school provides for the education of primary children, who will then most likely go onto Boston Spa Comprehensive School, which is popular for successes in sport and science teaching. Tadcaster Grammar School is also within easy access via public transport or car.

Hospital and Doctors

Bramham has a medical centre situated on Clifford Road, (near the centre of the village) but for hospital treatment residents will normally travel to Leeds or Harrogate.

Sports

The village also has its own football club, competing in the Harrogate and district leagues which add to the development and social network of Bramham.

The Bramham Horse trials are hosted at Bramham Park and have been since 1974. The Bramham Horse Trials will mark their 35th anniversary in 2008 of the Bramham International Horse Trails. The event lasts over three days and is one of the most popular and successful events in the country.

Bramham Park

Bramham is home to Bramham Park, a popular country house in West Yorkshire. The grounds (over 400 acres) are used for the Bramham Horse Trials, and the annual Leeds Music Festival which lasts over the August bank holiday weekend. A section of the grounds is kept as gardens and are available as a tourist attraction. Tourists can also visit the house but only by scheduled appointments.

Dogs are more than welcome on a lead. Ample free parking. Do bring a picnic, drinks and confectionaries are available.
